James Beard and Friends: Mangalitsa and Beer Dinner at Girl & the Goat

image

On November 2, Our Lady of the Cabra, Stephanie Izard, will be holding a Friends of the James Beard Foundation benefit beer dinner at Girl & The Goat and is bringing a few of her high-profile pals along for the occasion. The six course dinner will be prepared by six notable chefs, including: Giuseppe Tentori (Boka), Bill Kim (Urban Belly), Mike Sheerin (Blackbird), Mindy Segal (Hot Chocolate) and wild card Daniel Fox of Madison, Wisconsin restaurant, Madison Club. “Local” seems to be the key theme of the evening. There will be local and humanely raised livestock—including a whole Mangalitsa “wooly pig” raised by Izard and Fox at Fountain Prairie Farm in Columbus, Wisconsin—as well as fall produce harvest from nearby farms paired with beers from area breweries such as Half Acre, Metropolitan Brewing Company, and Two Brothers. Hungry for more? Just wait until you see the menu Izard shared with us:

1st course: Daniel Fox – Charcuterie board paired with Krankshaft Kolsch by Metropolitan Brewing Company
2nd course: Giuseppe Tentori – Beet risotto with crispy iberico ham and truffle juice paired with Working Man’s Mild by Revolution Brewing Company
3rd course: Bill Kim – Asian Wedding Soup with muscavoy duck, dried shrimp, kale and rice cake paired with Bairn Farmhouse Saison by Half Acre
4th course: Stephanie Izard – Braised pork belly with cocoa nibs, celery root and brussel sprouts paired with Dark and Curvy Dunkelweiss by Piece
5th course: Mike Sheerin – Smoked pork shoulder with horseradish and mushroom consommé paired with Domaine Du Paige French Country Ale by Two Brothers
6th course: Mindy Segal – Sweet potato pie, brown butter butterscotch, Miloko stout, cashew toffee and wood oven-roasted marshmallow paired with Moloko Milk Stout by Three Floyds

Tickets are not yet available for the event (Izard will be making an announcement soon), but in the meantime, mark your calendar for Tuesday, November 2 at 6:30 P.M. It will also give you plenty of time to start saving up, as tickets will cost a steep $200—after all, being a friend of James Beard doesn’t run cheap. For more information, call Girl & The Goat at 312-492-6262.
